How many questions are on the real Mississippi permit test?
The Mississippi written test contains 30 multiple-choice questions covering traffic laws and road signs.
What score do I need to pass?
You must achieve a passing score of at least 24 correct answers, which is 80%.
How much does the Mississippi knowledge test cost?
Mississippi does not list a separate standard knowledge-test fee. The regular learner’s permit costs $7 and is valid for two years.
Can I take the Mississippi permit test online?
No. All Mississippi knowledge examinations must be completed in person at a Driver Service Bureau location. DPS recommends making an appointment.
What should I bring to the Mississippi DPS office?
Bring a completed application, an original or certified birth certificate or another accepted identity document, your Social Security card or qualifying government correspondence showing the full number, two proofs of Mississippi residency and any applicable legal name-change documents. Applicants aged 15–17 must also provide a current school-attendance form.
Beginning July 1, 2027, Mississippi will require new drivers to provide documentation showing completion of a certified driver-education course before obtaining a regular driver’s license.
What happens if I fail?
Applicants can retest on the following business day and have to wait 30 days after three failed attempts.
