How many questions are on the real Maryland permit test?
The Maryland Class C knowledge test contains 25 multiple-choice questions covering Maryland traffic laws, road signs and safe-driving rules.
What score do I need to pass?
You must score at least 88%, which means answering at least 22 of the 25 questions correctly. You have 20 minutes to complete the test.
How much does the Maryland knowledge test cost?
Maryland MVA does not charge a separate fee for the knowledge test. A Type I learner’s permit for a first-time driver with no previous license costs $65 and includes conversion to a full license.
Can I take the Maryland permit test online?
No. The official knowledge test is taken at a full-service MVA office. You must complete the pre-application and schedule an appointment through your myMVA account.
What should I bring to the Maryland MVA office?
Bring original documents proving your age and identity, your Social Security number and Maryland residency. Two proofs of Maryland residency are generally required. Applicants under 16 must also provide an approved school-attendance verification form. Depending on your circumstances, you may need proof of your relationship to a parent or guardian.
What happens if I fail?
After your first failed knowledge test, you may retest on the next business day if an appointment is available. After failing two or more times, you must wait at least seven calendar days before another attempt.
