You need to answer 24 questions correctly out of 30, which is an 80% passing score.
How much does the Hawaii knowledge test cost?
Fees vary slightly by county. In Honolulu, the written test is listed as $2 and the instruction permit as $5. If you take the online learner’s permit test through KnowToDrive, Honolulu lists the online test cost as $12; other counties list different online test fees.
Can I take the Hawaii permit test online?
Yes. Hawaii offers the official online learner’s permit test through KnowToDrive. You must use an internet-connected desktop or laptop with a webcam; mobile phones, tablets, and touchscreen devices are not allowed.
What should I bring to the Hawaii DMV office?
Bring original or certified documents proving legal name, date of birth, legal presence, Social Security number where required, and Hawaii principal residence. If you are under 18, you also need parental or guardian consent, and Honolulu notes that a certified copy of the minor’s birth certificate is required to establish proof of age and who may sign the consent.
What happens if I fail?
For the online learner’s permit test, Honolulu says you can take it as many times as needed, but only twice in one day. If you fail due to knowledge, you must wait 7 days before retaking it and pay the full test fee again.
