Georgia Permit Test FAQs
How many questions are on the real Georgia permit test?
The Georgia DDS knowledge exam has two parts: a 20-question Road Rules Test and a 20-question Road Signs Test, for 40 total questions.
What score do I need to pass?
You must answer at least 15 questions correctly out of 20 on the Road Rules Test and 15 questions correctly out of 20 on the Road Signs Test. You need to pass both sections.
How much does the Georgia knowledge test cost?
The Class CP learner’s permit fee is $10. The fee is paid before the test begins. If you fail any part of the test, the fee is not refunded and must be paid again before another testing attempt.
Can I take the Georgia permit test online?
Georgia DDS offers an online practice test, but the official knowledge exam is taken through DDS Customer Service Centers. Knowledge exams are given on a walk-in basis and testing must begin at least 30 minutes before closing.
What should I bring to the Georgia DDS office?
Bring a completed application, proof of identity, proof of residential address, proof of Social Security number, proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful status, and the $10 permit fee. If you are under 18, a parent, guardian, or authorized driver training instructor must sign your application.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail any part of the Georgia knowledge exam, your $10 fee is not refunded. You must pay the permit fee again before another testing attempt. Review whether you failed Road Rules or Road Signs before trying again.

This is the official source of all rules you'll be tested on.
Begin with shorter quizzes
Start with road signs, lane rules, and right-of-way. These build strong foundational knowledge.
Move to full-length 40-question tests
These mimic the real exam format and help you get used to timing and pressure.
After tests are scored, review the correct answers carefully
Understanding why an answer is correct improves retention.
Retake tests until you consistently score above the passing threshold
Most successful test-takers aim for 85–90% on practice quizzes before taking the real test.
