How many questions are on the real Alabama permit test?
The Alabama permit test has 30 questions. The questions cover Alabama traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving rules.
What score do I need to pass?
You need to answer 24 out of 30 questions correctly to pass the Alabama permit test. That is a passing score of 80%.
How much does the Alabama knowledge test cost?
The Alabama knowledge test fee is $5. ALEA says checks are not accepted. If you pass and are issued a learner license, you will also need to pay the learner license fee.
Can I take the Alabama permit test online?
No. The Alabama permit knowledge test is taken through ALEA’s driver license testing process. You can use online practice tests to study, but the official permit test must be completed through ALEA.
What should I bring to the ALEA office?
For a learner license, bring proof of identity, your Social Security card, two proofs of Alabama residence, the required test fee, and the license fee. If you are applying at age 15, ALEA also requires a certified U.S. birth certificate and acceptable proof of school enrollment or graduation.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail the Alabama knowledge test, you can retake it, but you will need to pay the test fee again for each attempt. Use your score report to review the topics you missed before trying again.
