How many questions are on the real Idaho permit test?
The Idaho Class D knowledge test contains 40 questions. You may miss no more than 6 questions.

What score do I need to pass?

You must answer at least 34 of the 40 questions correctly, which is an 85% passing score.

How much does the Idaho knowledge test cost?
The Idaho Class D knowledge test costs $5. If you fail, you must pay the test fee again when you retake it. Permit and driver’s-license fees are charged separately.

Can I take the Idaho permit test online?

Idaho Transportation Department directs applicants to take the official knowledge test at a county driver’s-license office. No statewide online Class D knowledge-testing option is currently listed. Appointment and testing arrangements vary by county.

What should I bring to the Idaho DMV office?
New applicants should bring proof of age and identity, Social Security number verification, proof of Idaho residency, and proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence where applicable. Applicants under 17 also need proof of driver-training completion. Applicants under 18 need a liability signer and proof of school enrollment, attendance, graduation, or equivalent compliance.

What happens if I fail?
You must wait at least three days before retaking the Idaho knowledge test and pay the $5 test fee again.
