How many questions are on the real North Carolina permit test?
The NCDMV permit test contains 25 questions plus a separate test on road signs.
What score do I need to pass?
You must answer at least 20 of the 25 questions correctly.
How much does the North Carolina knowledge test cost?
The North Carolina Level 1 Limited Learner Permit currently costs $25.50.
Can I take the North Carolina permit test online?
NCDMV does not currently list a general at-home option for completing the official written knowledge and traffic-sign tests. Applicants complete the required tests as part of the driver-license office process.
What should I bring to the North Carolina DMV office?
For the L1 permit, bring one document proving identity and date of birth, proof of your Social Security number, one document proving North Carolina residency, your Driving Eligibility Certificate and your Driver Education Certificate. A parent or guardian must normally be present for the tests.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail the North Carolina knowledge test or driving test for a regular Class C license, you may retake it after seven calendar days.
